The Role:
As our Safety Manager, you will be pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of our educational tours globally. Reporting to the Head of Product and based in Lisbon, not only will you be championing best practices, you will oversee safety management systems, emergency response procedures, supplier audits and risk assessments. You will manage the emergency phone coverage and provide guidance to a global team, including weekend coverage when necessary. This role is vital to maintaining robust safety standards and delivering enriching travel experiences for all participants.
Responsibilities:
• Represent safety within the brand and uphold and improve safety standards.
• Conduct and maintain audit coverage for global suppliers, abiding to the company Safety Management System (SMS).
• Oversee the Incident and Emergency Line process, ensuring effective management, resolution and reporting of incidents.
• Complete comprehensive risk assessments for all standard itineraries and new tours, ensuring thorough coverage of identified hazards and mitigation measures.
• Deliver training programs for staff on child safety, crisis management, and other relevant topics to ensure high industry standards
• Stay updated on potential threats, including political unrest, natural disasters, and health risks, and provide regular updates to relevant teams.
• Work closely with the Head of Product to ensure program designs and suppliers meet rigorous safety standards and are fully documented, audited, and risk-assessed.
• Review and update safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) annually to ensure compliance with industry standards.

REQUIREMENTS
Competencies:

We are looking for a new member who is:
• Organized: Demonstrates a meticulous approach to managing safety procedures.
• Alert: Capable of making quick and effective decisions in emergencies.
• Detail-Oriented: Ensures all safety aspects are thoroughly addressed.
• Experienced: At least 4 years’ experience in safety management, preferably in the travel or educational sectors.
• Collaborative: Works well with teams across departments to ensure comprehensive safety measures.
• Proactive: Demonstrates initiative in identifying and mitigating risks.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Good to have
• Relevant safety certifications, particularly in child safety, emergency management, and risk assessment.
• Multilingual abilities to support global operations.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices specific to the educational travel industry.
